Ennerdale

Lake district without the crowds.....

Ennerdale Bridge is a delightful village with a strong community feel. Just a hop, skip & jump from the cottage are two well loved local pubs serving home-cooked food and real ales and a lovely newly built cafe called The Gather that offers light meals and acts as a village shop and visitor hub. The Gather also run activities for children in school holidays, together with events for adults ranging from yoga, art exhibitions and photography to bat walks, film shows, live bands, reading and craft groups. Just a short stroll from the cottage is a play park providing a football pitch, tennis courts, basketball, climbing frame and swings.

The walk around Ennerdale Water is recognised as the number 1 greatest autumn walk in the U.K. (The Times, 2020) and the surrounding valley is a rare Lakeland gem offering absolute seclusion should you choose to seek it out. The head of the valley is a forested habitat for deer, badgers and red squirrels whilst the clear waters of the lake are a home to rare Arctic Char and even otters!

Walks for all abilities are exceptionally well catered for with both gentle lakeside potters (the lakeside fire road is a good option for prams, balance bikes and those a little unsteady on their feet) and Lakeland giants to choose from. Alternatively, why not explore the ancient history of the valley by seeking out its archaeological secrets? The cycling in the area is second to none with plenty of forest trails, bridleways and challenging fell roads to keep you going. You could even explore the fells on horseback with nearby stables Bradley's offering picturesque treks on their gentle fell ponies!
